About Us
Cruises are sponsored by The Sailing Heritage Society, a non-profit
organization providing "sailing trips on the healing
seas" for local patients.
All revenue over trip expenses is applied directly to the mission. The
Schooner Mallory Todd, is provided to the Sailing Heritage Society by long
time local philanthropist, Captain George Todd.
George started Sailing Heritage Society as a way to give back to the community.
Schooner Mallory Todd has a long-term reputation for training youth and contributing to worthwhile causes. Sailing
Heritage Society provides no-cost cruises on Mallory for seriously ill patients and their families - and provides low-cost fundraising cruises for nonprofits when Mallory is not chartering commercially to cover her
own expenses.
All charter fees support our non-profit arm The
Sailing Heritage Society, whose mission is Brightening the lives of
ill children and adults with no-cost sailing trips on the healing seas. You
can read more about The Sailing Heritage Society at the website: www.sailingheritage.org
All cruises are run by a US Coast Guard certified Captain and mate.
Your Crew
Captain George Todd studied philosophy and liberal arts at a Quaker college in Pennsylvania. Upon graduation he served
5 years active duty as an officer in the Navy where he was a pilot and a staff officer.
His first sailing experience was a two year voyage from Hong Kong westabout via Borneo,
Suez, the Med and West Indies to the U.S. Then, knowing he belonged to the salt sea, he
set about building a business and designing and building the Mallory Todd to be his future home. Someday retirement will call him to again sail the seven seas. Until then he will enjoy chartering with the help of his many "sons"
that graduate to their own ships.
Captain Paul Johnson holds a
Merchant Marine Masters License, and is a marine consultant in his other life. He has skippered many vessels of all sizes and brings a vast store of sailing knowledge to Mallory. Hailing from storied Vashon Island, he has sailed the Northwest for 30 years. His
knowledge of the history and nature of these waters along with his low-key humor is a pleasure to everyone who comes aboard. Ask him to teach you some exotic knot or join him for a spirited expedition to gather mussels and oysters.
Captain
Rory MacLysaght holds a Merchant Marine Masters License for
Motor and Auxiliary Sail, plus Commercial Assistance Towing. He grew up on the Shannon river in Ireland, and has lived and worked in Europe, Japan and the US. In addition to skippering Mallory Todd, he is also a web developer, and provides tech support to Sailing Heritage Society and many other non-profits. In a past life, he was a photojournalist in both the US and Japan.
In his other life, Rory is a web developer, and manages the technology needs of Mallory Todd, as well as ship-board electronics.
